Zurich
As a renowned food city, Zurich offers not only its distinctive local delicacies but also an array of international cuisines. When in Zurich, two must-try specialties are cheese fondue and rösti (Swiss potato pancakes).
1. Confiserie Sprüngli
Famous for its chocolate cakes, the standout item here costs CHF 23 per pound or CHF 33 for two pounds. Words can’t describe its excellence. While their other handmade chocolates are good, nothing surpasses the chocolate cake. They also sell quality cocoa powder for making your own treats at home. Don’t forget to try their mint tea bags, which are highly recommended.
2. Zeughauskeller
A historic restaurant with a unique interior decorated with cannons and firearms, even the dishes are named after weapons. This is a great spot for German-style cuisine. Must-try dishes include grilled sausages, potato salad, and Zurich-style veal. The atmosphere is lively, with great beer and friendly waiters (plus a Chinese menu available).
3. Confiserie Teuscher
Founded 70 years ago in a small Alpine village, this chocolatier now has its headquarters in Zurich. Their handmade chocolates come in over 30 varieties and are beloved by locals. Teuscher can only be found in Zurich, Geneva, and Berlin, so don’t miss it.
Interlaken
1. West End
This cozy restaurant is run by a charming couple in their fifties who provide excellent service and detailed explanations of the menu and wine pairings. Their lamb chops and shrimp are exceptional, though the prices are on the higher side. Main courses start at CHF 25, with signature dishes costing around CHF 30+.
Spiez
1. Seegarten-Marina
The restaurant of the Hotel Seegarten-Marina offers an unbeatable location with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking stunning views. It’s well-known locally for its delicious dishes. Note that there is no English menu, and the staff’s English is limited, so downloading and translating a German menu in advance is recommended.
Zermatt
1. Le Kuklos
This rotating restaurant completes a full turn every 1.5 hours, offering diners unparalleled views of the Eiger North Face and Mont Blanc. You can reach this modern restaurant by cable car, and its design harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding nature.
Geneva
1. Pizzeria da Paolo
Stumbled upon this spot through a travel recommendation site. Initially, the plan was to visit another restaurant, but its kitchen had closed. The waiter kindly directed us here. The Paolo pizza was unusual, topped with dark greens, which may not be everyone’s taste, though our companions loved it. The pasta and soups were excellent—one of the cleanest plates we had during our trip.
2. Au Coin du Bar
Styled like a French bistro, this spot is known for its charcuterie and fromage (cheese) platters. However, the highlight here is its wine. Guests can even browse the wine cellar to select a bottle. In a pricey city like Geneva, Au Coin du Bar is a budget-friendly and delicious dining choice.
Whether you’re indulging in Swiss chocolate, savoring a rustic cheese fondue, or enjoying a fine dining experience with breathtaking views, Switzerland’s diverse culinary offerings ensure that every meal is a memorable one!
