Must-Visit Attractions
Palace of the Popes
In the 14th century, the Pope moved the papacy from Rome to Avignon to escape political conflicts, with the support of King Philip IV. Seven popes lived here over the years, and they constructed the Palace of the Popes, combining a palace and a fortress in one building, standing proudly atop the ancient city. The palace is divided into the Old Palace, simple and Roman in style, and the New Palace, lavish and Gothic. From August to October, a spectacular light show is held inside the palace.

Saint-Bénézet Bridge
Located near the Palace of the Popes, a short walk away, the Saint-Bénézet Bridge has a legendary origin. A 15-year-old shepherd was inspired by a divine vision to build a bridge over the Rhône River, and with the help of others, they completed it. However, the bridge was repeatedly destroyed by floods. It was finally abandoned in the 17th century, leaving behind a bridge with only four arches remaining today, becoming one of Avignon’s most iconic sights.

Gordes
Gordes is one of the most beautiful towns in Provence, with houses made of granite from the mountain, forming a terraced pattern that looks like an “airborne” village when viewed from a distance. From the hilltop of the town, you can see vast lavender fields in the valley below. Time seems to stand still here, and everything appears peaceful and beautiful.

Viewpoint Outside the Village
About 1.1 km southwest of Gordes, you’ll find a famous viewpoint, ideal for taking photos of the village perched on the mountain. The town is often referred to as the “sky village” because it seems to rise into the sky from the mountainside.
Gordes Castle
The small castle in the center of Gordes is an ancient administrative fort from the Gallic period, once the main fortress of the town of Cavaillon. It is a testament to the town’s rich history and the hardships of its people through the ages, who protected their homes and traditional way of life during medieval times.
• Transport: Gordes is somewhat remote, so driving or joining a tour is recommended.
• Opening Hours: Open year-round
